Sisters of Insight: Support & Travel Group for blind/Visually Impaired Women 40+

Sisters of Insight: A Peer Support Circle for BVI Women

Group Description

Focusing on our shared perspective and deep understanding, Sisters of Insight is a monthly virtual gathering designed specifically for blind and visually impaired (BVI) women aged 40 and up. This is more than a meeting; it is a sacred sistership circle—a safe, intimate space where we come together to share our journeys, laugh until it heals, and offer a shoulder when it’s time to cry.

We are women navigating the prime of our lives with vision loss. This circle exists to foster deep connection, celebrate our resilience, and provide a sanctuary where you don't have to explain your disability—you just have to be yourself. Beyond our virtual meetings, we are stepping out into the world together, planning vibrant travel adventures, concerts, and weekend getaways designed to help us relax, recharge, and practice ultimate self-care. Come for the authentic connection, stay for the strength, joy, and collective adventures of sisterhood.

Meeting Details

  • Frequency: Monthly
  • Day: Every 3rd Saturday of the month
  • Time: 11:00 AM Central Time (CT)
  • Format: Hosted virtually via Zoom (A relaxed, virtual space to connect easily from home, with separate planning for optional in-person outings and trips)

Core Topics & The Circle Experience

Each month, our circle focuses on the areas that matter most to our lives, including:

  • Authentic Sisterhood: A judgment-free zone to discuss the unique intersection of womanhood, aging, self-image, and visual impairment.
  • Shared Wisdom: From career navigation and family life to the best accessible technology, beauty/styling hacks, and self-care routines—we are each other's greatest consultants.
  • Emotional Freedom: Whether you are celebrating a major milestone or navigating a difficult season, this circle holds space for the full spectrum of your experience.
  • Laughter, Joy, & Leisure: Finding the humor in our daily lives, breaking down societal misconceptions, and lifting one another up through shared stories and collective "wins."

Sisters on the Move: Travel, Outings, & Self-Care

True self-care means stepping away from daily stressors to prioritize our own peace and happiness. Because we believe in experiencing life to the fullest, our circle actively collaborates on planning group trips, local outings, concerts, retreats, and more.

Why We Travel Together:

  • Stress Relief & Relaxation: Stepping away from the routine allows us to clear our minds, reset our nervous systems, and embrace pure joy.
  • Accessible Exploration: Traveling with a network of peers who understand visual impairments means we can explore new environments, venues, and performances with confidence, ease, and shared resources.
  • Shared Adventures: Whether it’s feeling the bass at a live concert, enjoying a spa weekend, or navigating a new city, experiencing these moments with a sisterhood deepens our bonds and builds unforgettable memories.
  • Confidence & Independence: Trying new activities in a supportive, judgment-free environment empowers us to push past comfort zones and claim the rich, adventurous lives we deserve.

Group Guidelines & Values

To ensure a positive, intimate, and secure environment for everyone, all participants agree to the following pillars:

  1. Confidentiality: What is shared in the circle stays in the circle. To preserve this sanctuary, meetings are kept entirely private.
  2. Mutual Respect: We celebrate diverse paths, differing degrees of vision loss, and unique life experiences. Every sister's voice is valued.
  3. Active Listening: We provide undivided attention and hold space for each other without judgment or unsolicited fixing.
  4. Peer Support, Not Professional Therapy: This is a peer-led group centered on lived experience, shared strength, and mutual empowerment.
